About Cathedral Senior Secondary School

Cathedral Senior Secondary School, located in Lucknow, offers a comprehensive co-educational learning environment for students from Nursery up to Class 12. The institution is affiliated with the CBSE board and integrates Olympiad preparation into its academic offerings, fostering a challenging and supportive atmosphere for student growth. The school traces its origins back to 1858 with the arrival of Rev. Fr. William Gleeson in Lucknow, who established St. Joseph's Church. The educational lineage developed further in 1885 with the founding of St. Francis School and orphanage by Rev. Fr. Norbert, eventually leading to the establishment of St. Francis Boarding and Day School in 1890 on the current Cathedral School site. The school as it is known today truly began to take shape with the vision of Bishop Conrad De Vito in the early 1950s, who championed primary education. St. Joseph's Private Day School was launched on July 8, 1950, with 60 children and four classrooms under the leadership of Founder Principal Rev. Fr. Edward Albertazzi. Just two years later, on July 16, 1952, the institution was officially renamed Cathedral School following a government notification, with Rev. Fr. Clement Bondioli assuming the role of the second Principal. Over the years, the school has expanded, nurturing its student body which comprised around 150 children across eight to ten classrooms in its early days as Cathedral School. Today, the school continues its commitment to academic excellence and extracurricular development, celebrating student achievements in various fields including board examinations, competitive events like CMUN-INVICTUS, and artistic and athletic endeavors. The academic session is structured to promote continuous improvement and discovery.
