The scale of NEET

NEET UG is the single entrance exam for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and veterinary seats across India. More than 20 lakh students register each year, competing for roughly 1 lakh MBBS seats — which means preparation strategy matters as much as effort.

Exam pattern

NEET is a pen-and-paper exam covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology), based on the Class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus. Correct answers earn +4 marks and incorrect answers attract −1 negative marking, so blind guessing is costly.

1. NCERT mastery beats everything. A large majority of Biology questions map directly to NCERT lines. Read the textbooks until you can recall diagrams and tables from memory.

After the exam: counselling

Seat allotment happens through All India Quota (15%) counselling conducted by MCC, and State Quota (85%) counselling conducted by each state. Keep your documents — domicile, category certificates, Class 10/12 marksheets — ready well before results.
