Coaching Scholarships in India: ANTHE, FTRE, ASAT & How to Use Them

Coaching fees for JEE/NEET classroom programs typically run ₹1–4.5 lakh. What many families don't realise: almost every major chain runs scholarship tests that can cut that bill dramatically.

The big three scholarship tests

ANTHE (Aakash National Talent Hunt Exam)

Aakash's flagship talent exam for students of Classes 7–12, usually held in October–November. Scholarships go up to 100% of tuition for top scorers. Aakash also runs iACST, an instant online admission-cum-scholarship test you can take year-round.

FTRE (FIITJEE Talent Reward Exam)

FIITJEE's scholarship exam, typically conducted multiple times a year. Beyond fee waivers, your FTRE rank decides which batch tier you're offered — the top batches get the strongest faculty.

ASAT (ALLEN Scholarship Admission Test)

ALLEN's entry test, available both online and at centres. Scholarship slabs are based on your score and your previous academic record (board marks, Olympiad performance, previous JEE/NEET scores for droppers).

How to maximise your scholarship

1. Take multiple tests. The exams are free or nearly free. A 60% waiver at one institute is powerful negotiating information at another.
2. Use your board marks. Most institutes have a parallel "academic record" scholarship slab — carry your marksheets when you visit.
3. Ask about sibling and early-bird discounts. These stack with scholarship slabs at many branches and are rarely advertised.
4. Negotiate in March–April and again in June. Admission targets make counsellors most flexible at batch-start deadlines.

A caution
